Requirements

The Big Mountain Ski Team is not a novice ski team program.  All team members, regardless of age, need to ski at a definite (defined) skill level.  Skiers need to be able to link parallel turns on a long, steep groomed run (like the face of Red Dog).  Skiers need to be able to handle off-piste runs like the West Face of KT22 with reasonably good form and high level of control in variable snow conditions.  Skiers also need to demonstrate a sense of terrain, snow conditions, and be able to communicate effectively with coaches and peers.  Over time, they should be able to recognize and handle or avoid hazards inherent to the challenging terrain at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.  When a participant demonstrates the skiing described above and the basic savvy to ski the whole mountain with poise and confidence, he/she is ready for the Big Mountain Team.  Helmets & eye protection are required for all team members.

Development (7-18)

Development (7-8)

The Development ski team is a wonderful opportunity for 7 to 18 year old skiers to develop their skiing skills while still keeping all avenues of skiing open to them in the future. We do this through learning race fundamentals both in and out of the race course, skill oriented free skiing and introducing them to some of the amazing terrain that Squaw Valley @ Alpine Meadows have to offer. We also structure the program around the Tahoe League Race schedule that all our Development Athletes are encouraged to participate in.

Requirements

We do require that our Athletes have several years of skiing experience and have a desire to learn the skills that we are teaching. This program is for kids that have progressed to the point already that skiing in a wedge is long gone from their technique and they are comfortable both on the steepest groomed runs and most of the non-groomed terrain that our mountains have to offer.  Helmets & eye protection are required for all team members.

Ski Cross (11-21)

Ski Cross (11-12)

This is a program for strong independent skiers who want to improve their racing abilities in a competitive skier cross atmosphere. Skier cross courses have rollers, jumps, and banked turns. We offer start-gate training, gate training with features and without, and we work on all-mountain skiing to develop strong, competitive athletes. In this program athletes are given the opportunity to reach their own goals including striving for the US Skier Cross Team.
