This program is available to young skiers ages 9 to 18. Big Mountain focuses on skiing steep and technical terrain in powder, crud, and other variable conditions. Our coaching staff will teach these skiers the skills to pick a line in technical terrain and ski it confidently and safely. Athletes will also have the opportunity to compete nationally in the IFSA Series, regionally in the Tahoe Jr. Freeride series, as well as the Big Mountain Squaw Cup events.

The Big Mountain Ski Team is not a novice ski team program. All team members, regardless of age, need to ski at a definite (defined) skill level. Skiers need to be able to link parallel turns on a long, steep groomed run (like the face of Red Dog). Skiers need to be able to handle off-piste runs like the West Face of KT22 with reasonably good form and high level of control in variable snow conditions. Skiers also need to demonstrate a sense of terrain, snow conditions, and be able to communicate effectively with coaches and peers. Over time, they should be able to recognize and handle or avoid hazards inherent to the challenging terrain at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. When a participant demonstrates the skiing described above and the basic savvy to ski the whole mountain with poise and confidence, he/she is ready for the Big Mountain Team. Helmets & eye protection are required for all team members.
The Development Racing program is for skiers ages 7 to 18 who want an introduction to racing but still wish to build and improve their all-around skiing abilities. Devo team serves as a stepping stone to the Far West programs; athletes have the chance to train gates and can compete in the Tahoe League race series, but still have the opportunity to free ski on most days.

This is a program for strong independent skiers who want to improve their racing abilities in a competitive skier cross atmosphere. Skier cross courses have rollers, jumps, and banked turns. We offer start-gate training, gate training with features and without, and we work on all-mountain skiing to develop strong, competitive athletes. In this program athletes are given the opportunity to reach their own goals including striving for the US Skier Cross Team.
