Policies

Grooming and Appearance

We want you to look good! Creating good memories for our guests involves projecting a positive image of Squaw and Alpine. A professional and well-groomed appearance is an essential ingredient in our Valley's success. We rely on your good judgment and commitment to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows to accept this basic condition of employment.

Because of our relations with clients, customers, and the nature of our business, neatness and cleanliness are absolutely necessary at all times. Team members should dress conservatively, in good taste, and according to the requirements of their position. If a team member fails to dress appropriately, the team member may be asked to leave for the day or to return home, change into suitable clothing, and report back to work. If you have any questions about the proper attire for your work area, ask your manager.

For men small rings such as class rings and wedding bands are permitted but should not be worn while performing work where they might present a safety hazard. No pins or other articles are allowed on uniforms with the exception of certification pins (P.S.I.A., Far West, Squaw related etc.). One small earring is allowed.

Hair must be of a natural haircut, neat and tidy at all times. Well-groomed hair is essential. Sideburns must be neatly trimmed and may extend to a half inch below the ear.

Full beards, mustaches, or goatees are permitted if fully grown at the time an individual is hired and cannot be started during the active season (June 1st through October 1st and November 1st through May 15th ). All beards, mustaches, and goatees must be neatly trimmed daily and of a conservative nature. Beards may not extend onto the neck area, or more than one-half inch in fullness. For women, a neat, natural hairstyle is essential. Long hair may need confinement in areas where it is a health or safety hazard. Jewelry should be worn in moderation. Small rings, wedding bands, bracelets, and earrings (two) are permitted, but should not be worn while performing work where they might present a safety hazard. No pins or other articles are allowed on uniforms with the exception of certification pins (P.S.I.A., Far West, Squaw or Alpine related etc.).

Radical hairstyles or colors (bleached OK) do not meet our standards. Exposed body piercing and excessive exposed tattoos are not acceptable on the job with the exception of one small facial stud smaller than 1/16 of an inch with only one end exposed.

Drug and Alcohol Policy

It is the goal of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows to maintain a drug free workplace. All employment is conditional upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test.

After employment, a drug and/or alcohol test shall be conducted under the following circumstances:

  • Reasonable Suspicion
  • Inappropriate Possession
  • Post Accident
  • Post Injury

Pre-Employment Testing: All offers of employment shall be conditioned on passing a drug test. A previously extended offer of employment can and will be rescinded following a failed drug test. Applicants will not be subject to alcohol testing, absent special safety or other concerns that are both job-related and consistent with business necessity. The Team Member Handbook contains details on testing procedures, confidentiality and results.

Smoking

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are Smoke Free Resorts. The Company has adopted resort wide smoke-free policy. This policy prohibits smoking in any public area including but not limited to indoors, lift lines, chair lifts, outdoor seating areas, and other outdoor public spaces. There are numerous designated smoking areas; they are listed in the Team Member Handbook and your manager will go over locations during your training. No smoking signage has been placed throughout the resort. Ash receptacles have been placed at all designated smoking areas.
