June is filled with perfect sunny Lake Tahoe days yet void of the crowds. The beaches are vacant, hiking trails are quiet and the biking path is wide open. We should mention room rates are generally cheaper and you can find great deals at local restaurants too. Can it be beat? We don’t think so.
Now that the idea has been planted for a potential Lake Tahoe vacation this June, we can safely assume your next question is “what would we do?” Lucky for you, we expected that question. Below are our top 5 activities and events to check out in June.
We’ve got some stellar hiking at Squaw Valley right now. The wildflowers are budding and the waterfalls are gushing over the granite rock in Shirley Canyon. View our hiking map to embark on your own excursion or join us for a free guided hike that departs from High Camp every day.
Start your journey by renting a bike in The Village at Squaw Valley from Parallel Mountain Sports and head out on your mellow 8 mile ride. The path snakes alongside the Truckee River and pops you out at the shores of Lake Tahoe. Remember to bring your bathing suit, beach towel and sunscreen. You’ll want to hang out at the beach for a bit.
Bluesdays Tuesdays & Yoga Squaw’d (our favorite weekly summer events) arrive early. Starting mid-June, we’ll be hosting free concerts and discounted Aerial Tram rides every Tuesday along with free yoga every Wednesday through the summer. We’ve got a killer music lineup on Tuesdays so make sure to check out our great lodging deals so that you can stay and enjoy all the action.
LOCAL RESTAURANT DEALS
Head to the quaint town of Truckee and stop at the Cottonwood Restaurant that sits above the town. A great deck area paired with the perfect happy hour menu makes for an unbeatable experience. Be there from 4:30pm to close Monday-Thursday for specials on drinks and tasty bites. If you’re heading to Tahoe City, which is located right next to Lake Tahoe, stop by River Grill. Happy hour is 7 days a week day from 5-6:30pm serving up $3 beers and ½ off appetizers. In between the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe, this is one spot you won’t want to pass up.
Your Lake Tahoe vacation is not without a scenic Aerial Tram ride to High Camp. Take in the expansive views of Squaw Valley ski resort and Lake Tahoe on the ride up. Once you arrive at High Camp, stop and snap a photo, hike up the ridgeline to get an even better view of the Lake. Tip: Get $10 off coupon at the North Lake Tahoe Resort Assoication office located in Tahoe City.
