Snowing Hard at High Camp with Snow Levels Falling /

Submitted by ba December 2, 2012 - 9:11am Weather

The snow levels jumped overnight but are now falling as the heavy precip moves in this morning. It is snowing hard at the summit and it will be snowing all the way to the base by this afternoon. We could see another 1-2 feet of snow at the summit by tonight with several inches possible down to the base. Storm totals for the week at the summit could be 4-5 feet at the summit by Monday morning's report.

After a break Monday and Tuesday the forecast models are a little more bullish on the next system for Tuesday night into Wednesday. The snow levels will be between 7000-8000 ft. with several inches possible above that. Then we should see another break starting Thursday as a ridge builds in off the coast cutting off the storms.

Next weekend some of the forecast models show that the ridge off the coast builds in and stays until the middle of next week. Then a cold trough digs down the West coast with light snowfall. Others show the ridge staying off the coast for the long-term with a cold trough digging into the West next weekend bringing us colder but dry conditions.  Plenty of cold to get the snow guns going again.

The CFS long-range forecast does have precip returning for the second half of the month which is a good sign.  BA
