Pain McShlonkey Wrap Up /

Submitted by jmegnin March 26, 2012 - 2:09pm General

In the spirit of not taking yourself seriously, competitors did not hold back at this year’s Pain McShlonkey Classic. The event was a huge success and is an annual ode to Squaw Valley legend Shane McConkey. I thought I would share some of the madness that went down this weekend.

Friday evening: Moulin Rouge met Squaw Valley as local ski bums equipped with top hats, ridiculous mustaches and ladies in corsets danced and took part in the silent auction, which in the end pulled together over a thousand dollars for the Shane McConkey Foundation. Everyone that attended was blown away by the décor and brilliant costumes- especially by the dancers in Moulin Rouge attire.

Saturday morning: Competitors gathered in Plaza Bar to trash talk, show off their ridiculous outfits and chug (cough) Red Bull…err beer? At 8:30am, they loaded KT and were ripping down the hill with their fast, sleek and durable snowlerblades. No competition here. Daron Rahlves took the Golden Saucer like the champion that he is with several other competitors tackling him and each other at the finish line. The Small Mountain Invitational followed with incredible performances, including one particularly memorable line by Kyle O’Neal who repelled off of Ice Goddess in snowlerblades. Seriously?

Saturday afternoon: After the on-mountain debauchery, came the fashion show- complete with tight neon pants, bare bottoms and extremely good looking people.

Saturday evening: The night reeked of the eighties, which was accompanied with classics sung by “Pop Rocks” who were adorned in very shiny silver suits. Every which way you turned party goers were showing off their flashiest neon threads, cut off jorts and my personal favorite- fanny packs! Everyone was cutting a rug and belting their hearts out to Journey, making this evening one for the ages.

If you were there, you know how much fun this weekend was. If not, you missed out and you should definitely make your plans to be here for the Pain McShlonkey Classic next year. Until then!
