We picked up another inch in the past 24 hours as we slowly accumulate snowfall this weekend. That pace will pick up quickly tonight.
Today we start with more clouds and very light snow falling. The snowfall intensity will slowly increase this afternoon into this evening. Only expecting another inch or two during the day today. The winds could get gusty later today gusting up to 50 mph up top.
Then this evening the snowfall will pick up a little more as the strong storm pushes toward the Pacific NW. Expecting 3-6 inches at the base by morning and 6-9 inches up top. The cold front approaching is speeding up and should push through by Monday evening. We could see another 3-6 inches at the base Monday and 6-9 more up top.
After the front pushes through temperatures will drop Monday night into the teens with lingering snow showers. The snow ratios will jump so depending on how much moisture is left we could pick up a few more inches of light powder. Two day totals by Tuesday morning could be around 6-12 inches at the base and 12-21 inches up top.
We start to clear out Tuesday with the sun returning and lots of cold through Wednesday with highs only in the 20's. On Thursday the clouds increase ahead of teh next storm system.
Better agreement today on timing for the storms for Thursday through next weekend, and the snowfall details will have to be fine tuned as we go through the week. The ridge over the Rockies is not looking as strong anymore so the low pressure dropping out of the Gulf of Alaska will not be slowed and it looks like it will be able to push the first wave of moisture inland by Thursday night.
We could see several waves rotating inland around the low as it drops down the West coast, with almost non-stop snow through next weekend with the jetstream continually aimed at Northern CA feeding in moisture. There will be plenty of moisture and cold with snowfall of a foot or more possible each day Fri-Sun. We will have to fine tune those amounts as we get closer, but several feet seem likely next weekend.
With the ridge staying off the coast out near 140-150w the cold and snow should continue through the Holiday week next week. There is currently no sign of a pattern change until possibly around the end of the year. BA
