Five Reasons Getting Married at Squaw Valley is Easy /

Submitted by jmegnin February 23, 2013 - 12:10pm General

Valentine’s Day can mean more than just flowers and chocolate. According to a recent survey conducted by American Express, six million men were planning to propose this year. Are you one of those happy couples?

If so, first: Congratulations!

Second: You’ve probably started planning your wedding already, and we know it can be stressful. Here are five reasons to hold your big day at Squaw Valley, and why it will be completely easy. (And spectacular, to boot.)

  1. The views. California ski area Squaw Valley might be home to snow, but it also hosts some of the best scenic vistas in Lake Tahoe. Enjoy the views of the lake itself, rugged rocks, soaring groves of aspens and pines, rolling meadows, or in winter, pristine snow. Nature will only help fuel the romance. (We know this isn’t the point of weddings, but think about this, too: You’ll have no trouble finding incredible backdrops for your photos.)
  2. Options. Lake Tahoe wedding venues are hard to beat. At Squaw Valley, you can choose from four different ceremony spots and five wedding reception locations. Exchange vows at Cushing Pond or ride the tram to High Camp Upper Deck. Turn your wedding into a small adventure by holding it at 8200 feet. Sea-level beach weddings will seem so passé.
  3. Activities. When your guests are traveling for your party, you want to be a good host. That means making sure they have fun, before and after your wedding festivities. Lake Tahoe hiking trails are among the best, or your guests can enjoy mountain biking, time on the golf course, or paddling on the lake. You could also throw a pool party right at Squaw Valley, at the High Camp swimming pool and hot tub. Bottom line: Your guests will be entertained, so you can relax and enjoy your wedding, too.
  4. Pampering. We’re throwing this one in because it’s so often overlooked. Weddings can cause headaches and backaches, so why not treat yourself to a massage? Book private mani/pedi’s for your bridesmaids or get glowing skin with a signature body scrub at Trilogy Spa, located right in the village.
  5. Location. This one is important when it comes to ‘ease:’ Squaw Valley is a mere 42 miles from Reno, making it simple to fly in. For those driving from the Bay Area, I-80 makes it a quick 196 miles from San Francisco or 96 miles if traveling from Sacramento. (There’s a reason folks call Squaw the ultimate Lake Tahoe weekend getaway.)

Your turn: What are your favorite Squaw Valley spots or activities that would enhance any wedding?
