Bluebirds are Chirping /

Submitted by ba December 24, 2012 - 11:24am Weather

After another 18 inches of snow yesterday we now have a total of 5 feet on the mountain from the weekend.  We are also now close to 50% of our total seasonal average at 220 inches.

The sun is shining today as we have a brief break between storms.  The sun should come out again Christmas morning before the next storm pushes in during the afternoon.

We should see light snow develop during the afternoon tomorrow and then pick up in intensity Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Light snow showers could continue into Wednesday night.  At the base we could see 1-3 inches tomorrow afternoon/evening, 4-6 inches Tuesday night, and 1-3 more Wednesday for a storm total of 6-12 inches. On the mountain we could see a total of 10-20 inches by Wednesday night.

The the ridge begins to build in over the West. The next storm diving down towards the West coast hits the brakes Saturday as it encounters the ridge, and slides South down the coast. We could see a weak inside slider system Sunday with a backdoor cold front coming Southwest from Idaho and Nevada. At most a few snowflakes are possible.  It will stay cold through the weekend with higs in the 20's on the mountain and 30's at the base.

Next week the ridge is building off the coast keepin the storms way up into Canada. This looks to last through all of next week.  Some of the long-range models do show retrogression of the ridge for the 2nd week of January opening the storm door back up.  BA
