30 Inches of New Snow. More In the Forecast /

Submitted by ba March 1, 2014 - 7:52am Weather

It snowed off and on for most of the day yesterday into last night.  We picked up another 8 inches on the upper half of the mountain bringing the storm total to 30 inches so far.

The center of the low pressure system is moving onshore into CA this morning.  As it moves across the state we may see some more scattered snow showers today.  We could pick up another 1-3 inches on the mountain.  By tonight the snow tapers off but snow showers increase again Sunday morning as moisture streams in off the Pacific.  We could see another inch or two on the mountain Sunday.

A break Sunday night into Monday before another system moves through Monday night.  We could see another 1-3 inches on the mountain from this weak system.  Snow levels may run around 7000 ft. with this system, just above the base.  A ridge of high pressure builds in over CA Tuesday into Wednesday bringing drier and warmer weather.

Wednesday night into Thursday another storm moves in to our North but may push far enough South to bring colder air and several inches of snow to the mountain.  The forecast models are in disagreement with how much snow falls with this system.  They are showin anywhere from 3 up to 18 inches of snow.  We will have to watch the trend over the next few days.  Snow levels start around 8000 ft. and then fall near base level by Thursday morning.

After that the ridge builds back in next Friday with drier and milder weather next weekend.  The next chance for storms could be around the 12th-15th of March as the ridge shifts East and storm try to push into the West Coast.

Stay tuned....BA
