A cold trough approaches the West Coast on Tuesday with snow showers pushing in on the mountain as early as Tuesday morning. Several waves bring in light snow through Thursday. Total 48 hours snowfall from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon could be around 6-12 inches at the base and in the village, and 1-2 feet on the mountain.
We should see a break in the snowfall Friday into Saturday. Some forecast model runs show some scattered snow showers Friday and Saturday from the departing and incoming systems. The next cold trough and associated snowfall should push in by next Sunday with snow showers lingering into Monday. This system could bring similar amounts of snowfall as the first system.
The GFS forecast model brings in another system Tuesday the 1st and again on the 2nd. Then rebuilds a ridge off the coast pushing the storm track to the North going into the first weekend in April. The European forecast model shows a system on the 2nd-3rd and then continues with more systems going into the first weekend in April. It has the ridge further offshore keeping the storm track into CA. The teleconnection forecasts would support a higher chance that the storms continue into April. The CFSv2 climate model forecasts show a fairly stormy April.
