A Quiet Week for Weather, Then More Active /

Submitted by ba March 11, 2014 - 3:52pm Weather

We picked up 4 inches of snow on the mountain yesterday morning as the cold front moved through.  We have clear skies today but it is windy up on the mountain.

The ridge of high pressure will continue to build off the coast of CA into the Weekend with warming temps each day.  The ridge will keep the storms to our North into the Pacific NW the rest of this week and further North than that into the weekend.

The ridge is still forecast to breakdown and reform North of Hawaii this weekend.  A storm will approach the West Coast but the ridge will quickly build towards the West Coast the beginning of next week and the system looks like it will split off the coast.  We may have a cut-off low off the CA coast by next Tuesday.  The forecast models are trying to push it inland Wednesday bringing us a shot at some snow.

The forecast models are still in fairly good agreement that the ridge continues to shift NW towards the Gulf of Alaska as we go later into the month of March.   The models are showing a cold trough digging down the West Coast the end of next week with cold and snow for us.  We will continue to watch the trend on that.

As the ridge shifts further NW it may allow even larger cold troughs and increased chances of snow later in the month.

Stay tuned....BA
