Nice weather today turns much colder by Friday with colder air and a chance for light snow this weekend.
The first shot of colder air arrives Friday as a cold trough drops in to our East. The second stronger cold air trough drops down from the North Saturday reinforcing the cold air. This will make the snowmaking conditions on the mountain much more ideal. Looking at the potential precipitation with the front on Saturday the forecast models are showing anything from a few flakes up to 3 inches of snow on the mountain.
We will continue to monitor the trend as these systems dropping down from the North over land can be unpredictable. Just a slight jog West in the path and more precip could be pulled in off the Pacific like the last storm.
Next week a flat ridge builds in off the coast and looks to stay there for most of the week. The storm track stays just to our North with several storms impacting the Pacific NW. Looking long-range the operational model runs keep the ridge off the coast week 2 continuing to keep us dry.
The latest climate model runs still show above average precip for the end of the month for CA but it's not showing up on the other models. Hopefully that changes...BA
