Beautiful Holiday Weekend Weather /

Submitted by ba January 18, 2013 - 1:39pm Weather

The temperatures so far this week have not been hitting the forecasted highs, with lows in the single digits, and highs in the 30's instead of 40's. We are still running 13 degrees below average for the month. A lot of it is due to the healthy snowpack and calm winds causing radiational cooling at night and the snow deflecting the sun's rays during the day.

The pattern is going to stay pleasant through the Holiday weekend and then we will begin to see some changes. The ridge will begin to progress East next week and a cold trough will try to drop into the West Coast by Wednesday. This should be mostly colder air, a chance of a snow showers, and some wind for us with most of the precip staying to our North. What is interesting is that a storm will be spinning off the Baja of Mexico and some model runs show the cold front trying to tap some moisture from down near the storm. So there is an outside chance we see a few inches of snow Wednesday.

Then going into next weekend that storm may be drawn North into CA at the same time as another cold trough dropping in from the NW. We may only see some light snow with the cold front but if the low to the South is drawn far enough North like some models are suggesting we could get a decent snow storm next weekend. We will have to watch how that progresses over the next week.  BA
