Snow showers continued most of the day yesterday. We picked up a total of 7 inches up top on both Squaw and Alpine. The sun is out today and will be again Thursday with increasing winds ahead of the next snow storm.
The forecast models are in agreement that several inches of snow will fall on the mountains. They are still not in agreement on where the highest amounts will fall. The snow may begin to fall later Thursday night on the mountain, but the heaviest snow is expected on Friday as the cold front pushes through. Snow showers will linger into Friday night.
The models are showing differences in where the jet streak comes inland Friday enhancing snowfall. Also where or whether or not the cold front slows and drops higher totals. Right now it looks like the heaviest amounts will fall just to our South. Right now 6-9 inches looks like a good guess for totals on the mountain by Friday night, with up to a foot on the highest peaks. Amounts could be higher if the jet streak comes inland further North or if the cold front stall for a while across the basin.
High temperatures over the weekend will be in the 40's at base level and 30's on the mountain. Snow showers could linger through the weekend on the mountains if a second system coming inland on Sunday is far enough South.
