3-6 Inches of Snow Possible Saturday Night /

Submitted by ba February 15, 2014 - 8:20am Weather

A cold front will move through tonight with a line of precip and falling snow levels.  The models have pulled back on precip amounts.  Snowfall amounts by Sunday morning should  be in the 3-6 inch range on the mounain.

We begin to dry out Sunday afternoon with some cooler air on Sunday.  Temperatures begin to moderate on Monday and Tuesday.  A cold trough will be digging down the West Coast and trying to pull in moisture from across the Pacific.  The ridge in the Eastern Pacific will begin to amplify North by Tuesday cutting off any moisture feed and will keep the trough from digging further down the West Coast.  The trough begins to dig down to our East over the Rockies.  We should see a wave of precip with the cold front moving through on Wednesday, but the models continue to pull back on precip amounts.  The GFS forecast model has only a dusting on the latest run and the European forecast model a few inches of snow.

As low pressure moves inland to our North and East on Thursday we may see a snow shower but the models are further North and East with each run as the ridge begins to build in towards the West Coast.  The ridge of high pressure will bring drier and milder conditions by next weekend into the following week.

All of the forecast models either move the ridge North into Canada or East by the end of the month.  They show a piece of energy breaking off of the trough North of Hawaii and coming into CA on the 27th-28th.  That looks to be our next chance of snow after Wednesday.

Stay tuned....BA
